Modern methods of natural fertility management are based on a scientific and accurate understanding of each woman’s unique pattern of fertility (unlike the Rhythm method, which makes no allowance for each woman’s individual menstrual cycle).
The menstrual cycle is under the influence of the female sex hormones oestrogen and progesterone. These hormones cause physiological changes in a woman‘s body which – depending on the method can be monitored using one or more of the following indicators:
- Changes in the basal body or waking temperature
- Changes in cervical mucus secretion
- Changes in the cervix
- The length of menstrual cycles
- Minor indicators of fertility, including abdominal pain and breast changes
We offer the Sympto-Thermal Method (STM) of natural fertility management. The STM enables couples to accurately identify the phases of fertility and infertility by observing and recording multiple indicators of fertility. With appropriate support available through a NFA agency, you will learn to identify these indicators and achieve your fertility goals.
The use STM effectively, a full course of instruction by an experienced educator accredited in the Sympto-Thermal Method is recommended.
